PECOS Physician Notification

Notice to Physicians:

Thank you for trusting Miller’s to provide for your patients’ home medical equipment needs. The purpose of this notification is to update you that CMS has established the deadline for enrollment in PECOS – Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership. That deadline is 1/6/14. PECOS is the electronic database of providers including physicians enrolled in or opted-out of Medicare. All physicians are required to be registered in this database.

CMS requires that all claims billed for dates of service effective 1/6/14, have an ordering physician that has an approved enrollment record in PECOS. These include DME, home health, and other provider claims.

We need your help so that we are able to continue serving your patients. We have checked in the PECOS system and have been unable to find a record of your enrollment. If you are not enrolled in PECOS, then we are unable to bill Medicare for your patients’ home medical needs. Consequently, Miller’s will have to bill the patient for 100% of charges.

If you believe you are enrolled and there is an error, please notify us immediately. It is possible there is a spelling or other discrepancy that is preventing us from confirming your enrollment. You may also have already enrolled in PECOS but are not yet showing up in the PECOS database. If you have previously enrolled, please provide us with a copy of your confirmation and date of enrollment.

Reminder: Re-enrollment is required every two years. So even if you are currently enrolled, you must resubmit.

CMS has provided detailed FAQs and easy to follow instructions on how to enroll in PECOS. These instructions can be found at

Please note it may take 45 to 60 days for Medicare to process your application so please provide us a copy of your confirmation that you receive once you enroll in PECOS.

We sincerely appreciate your timely attention to this very important issue. Please contact us if you have any questions.
